In Panama, Members Can Take Command of the Export Future

Transforming the Council Begins in Panama
Panama Canal modernization isn’t the only fresh, new development to be explored at the U.S. Grains Council’s February membership meeting. Transforming the Council itself will be part of the agenda, as the Council debuts its newly approved strategic plan for 2012 to 2016.

“This will be more than a report,” said Tom Sleight, Vice President of Operations and Membership. “From hallway discussions to working sessions, members can expect to see and be part of applying this plan to guide the Council’s work.”

Council Leadership Team First to Follow Up on FTAs
An elite U.S. Grains Council delegation was the first group to meet with key officials in Panama and Colombia since U.S. passage of the Colombia and Panama free trade agreements (FTA).

USGC Chairman Wendell Shauman, National Corn Growers Association Chairman Bart Schott, were accompanied by Council staff, Floyd Gaibler, director of trade policy, Chris Corry, director of international operations, and Kirk Shultz, regional director in Latin America.

Advancing DDGS Adoption in China
The U.S. Grains Council’s latest DDGS promotion in China was a successful pair of workshops in Guangzhou and Qingdao, according to Alvaro Cordero, USGC manager of DDGS.

“The day-long sessions were designed to provide an exchange of comprehensive DDGS market information, including discussions and analysis of the value of U.S. DDGS,” he reported.  

“We had 200 to 250 people at each session, a much larger attendance than we initially planned for. The emphasis was primarily on buyers, but we had attendees from other backgrounds.”
