Mexican Beer Depends On U.S. Barley Under NAFTA

Cuauhtémoc-Moctezuma-Heineken (CCM/Heinken) cannot brew beer favorites like Dos Equis without high-quality barley. And thanks to the favorable trading terms under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), CCM/Heinken sourced 100 percent of their barley needs from Montana in 2017.

Decision makers from the company traveled north to Montana in October on a U.S. Grains Council team arranged so they could see firsthand how this top ingredient is grown and malted.

Tierney Joins USGC As Director Of Strategic Marketing/Ethanol, North Asia

Tim Tierney joined the U.S. Grains Council (USGC) as director of strategic marketing/ethanol, North Asia, on Monday. Based in Signapore, this new position will seek to capitalize on longstanding relationships as well as emerging opportunities for biofuels in North Asia. 

Tierney’s position reflects efforts to build and align global resources for the Council's work to capture near-term demand for U.S. feed grain sales and build long-term demand for ethanol among global customers. 

USGC Organizes Grain Standards Workshop In Jordan

The U.S. Grains Council collaborated with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA’s FAS) and the Amman Chamber of Commerce to organize a grain standards workshop in Jordan last month.

The workshop included representatives from key importers, the Jordan Food and Drug Administration as well as the Jordan’s ministries of agriculture, industry, trade and supply. The workshop discussed contract terms, U.S. grains specifications and standards and Grain and Feed Trade Association (GAFTA) rules and arbitration system. 

Ethanol Summit Of The Americas Enlivens Discussions Of Global Ethanol Use

Houston - Industry and government officials from more than 15 countries in the Western Hemisphere are meeting this week at the Ethanol Summit of the Americas to discuss current and future opportunities for ethanol in the region.

The event is underway until Friday in Houston, Texas, sponsored by the U.S. Grains Council (USGC), Growth Energy, the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) and the Iowa Corn Promotion Board. These organizations and others in the U.S. agriculture and renewable fuels industries work together to promote the global use of ethanol and U.S. ethanol exports.
