Michael T. Callahan

Michael T. Callahan is senior director of international operations for the U.S. Grains Council, a non-profit organization that promotes the use of U.S. corn, barley and sorghum and related products worldwide. In this capacity, Callahan supervises market development and trade servicing activities in importing countries in the Asian region, including Japan, Korea, Taiwan, People’s Republic of China, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Vietnam.

 

Beginning in 1978, Callahan worked for the Council in Asia, both in the capacity of Southeast Asia regional director in Singapore and Malaysia, and as the director of international operations based in Hong Kong.

 

Before joining the Council, Callahan worked as a beef production specialist in East Africa for the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations. He was also a feedlot management consultant for the Agricultural Bank of Spain and has served for the U.S. Peace Corps in Malaysia

 

Callahan received his bachelor’s degree from Anderson College in Anderson, Ind., and his master’s of agriculture degree from Texas A & M University.

The U.S. Grains Council is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to building export markets for barley, corn, sorghum and their products. The Council is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and has 10 international offices and active market development programs in more than 50 countries. Financial support from the Council’s private industry members, including state checkoffs, agribusinesses, state entities and others, triggers federal matching funds from the government and support from cooperating groups in other countries, producing an annual market development program valued at more than $28.3 million.
