Sean Callanan

 

Sean Callanan is Manager of Programs for the U.S. Grains Council (USGC), a non-profit organization that promotes the use of U.S. barley, corn and sorghum and related products worldwide. In this capacity, Callanan assists in directing the Council’s grant programs through strategic analysis, program planning and development, implementation and evaluation, and membership services. 

Callanan is the Council’s liaison to USDA’s Foreign Agriculture Service which administers all of the Council’s grant programs including the Market Access Program (MAP), the Foreign Market Development Program (FMD), the Emerging Markets Program (EMP) and the Quality Samples Program (QSP).

Prior to serving as the Council's Manager of Programs, Callanan worked as the Director of International Programs for Townsend Management, LLC., a consultancy group which administers FAS grant programs for the U.S. Apple Export Council (USAEC) and the California Kiwifruit Commission (CKC), and occassionally for the USA Rice Federation and the California Dried Plum Board. Callanan also previously worked for the National Turkey Federation before holding his position at Townsend Management, LLC., and has over seven years of association experience. 

Callanan earned a B.A. in Philosophy with a minor in Economics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2002.

The U.S. Grains Council is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to building export markets for barley, corn, sorghum and their products. The Council is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and has 10 international offices and active market development programs in more than 50 countries. Financial support from the Council’s private industry members, including state checkoffs, agribusinesses, state entities and others, triggers federal matching funds from the government and support from cooperating groups in other countries, producing an annual market development program valued at more than $28.3 million.
